Sandra Marie-Llewellyn Brooks was born in the small community of Whitfield Town, Kingston, Jamaica, the third child of Armarnel Wint and Rodolf Llewellyn. She lived with her mother, sisters and brother in the community for most of her young adult life.

  • Sandra attended Rousseau Primary School, Norman Manley
  • Comprehensive High School and
  • Comperdown High School.

One of the most significant impacts on Sandra’s development was when she began to attend Sunday School at Life Tabernacle Church at 33 Pretoria Road, Kingston 13. It was at Life Tabernacle that the melody in her voice was recognized and appreciated. Sandra soon found herself as part of the Church Sunday School Choir.

In 1982, Sandra decided to make Jesus her choice and although knowing that the road would be rough and the going can get tough, she realized that the Lord had called her talent to win souls so she freely answered the call.

During her tenure at Camperdown High School, Sandra was encouraged to enter the Annual Teen Star Search Competition where she was placed among the top three (3) contestants.

Seeing the oozing talent that existed in this prodigy, Noel Willis-Manager owner of the Grace Thrillers (the leading Gospel Group in Jamaica, and possible the Caribbean at the time) decided to recruit the budding singer. Her four (4) years with the Grace Thrillers saw her recording as lead singer on songs such as “Crown Him” and “As in The Days of Noah”.

In 1992, the Lord led Sandra to pursue her solo ministry, which is growing from strength to strength. In 1994, she launched her album “Don’t Worry”, which topped the gospel charts in Jamaica and parts of the Caribbean.

God has and still is rewarding Sandra for her “labour of love”, and has opened the way for her to receive several nominations for the Jamaica Music Awards and also the Binns and Rockers Award. In 1998, Sandra received the Jamaica Federation of Music Award of Excellence and to cap it all, the people of the Bahamas have nominated her in three categories at the Caribbean Marlin Music Award. These categories are:

  • Outstanding Caribbean Female Vocal Performance
  • Outstanding Caribbean Calypso Recording of the Year
  • Outstanding Caribbean song of the year

Apart from the help of God Sandra has almost single handedly manage, produce and promote herself both locally and internationally and has done a good job of it. She has produced shows in St. Kitts and Nevis, Cayman and Anquilla, most of which have been successful.

Sandra, like Paul, knows how to become all things to all men so that she might win some to Christ. This is exemplified by the fact that her ministry has transcended all barriers of race, class, or denomination. You will find her administering in the ghettos of Kingston or on the lawns of kings house.

Sandra an ordained Evangelist, in her home church at Life Tabernacle, has finished her second album entitled “The Answer”. This has surpassed the sales of the first album and has been on the Gospel Chart since it’s launch in May 1998. Sandra’s steps are truly ordered by the Lord. She has gained recognition world wide and has graced the stage with well known Artistes such as; Shirley Caesar, traimane Hawkins, Phil &Brenda Nicholas, Bill and Sarah Grains, Rev. F.C. Barnes, Richard Smallwood, Gods Property and Skeeta Davis.

During the past two (2) years, the Lord has led her to aid people in other ways. She has started the Evangelist Sandra Brooks Academy of Gospel Music, where individuals can learn to play numerous musical instruments and also to hone singing skills. The Academy also provides digital recording studio and sound reinforcement equipment for concerts and church functions. Truly Sandra Marie Brooks has found the answer down on her knees. She knows that God has more doors to open for her as she continues to make Jesus her choice.
