It started in the summer of 1990, with a newspaper ad that read, “WANTED: Gospel singing men”. After months of auditions, hours of rehearsals, and constant prayers, the search was over. James Ricks, Sr. launched “THE UPLIFTERS”. Now, almost 20 years later the group still have its original members. Led by lead vocalist Anthony “Chill” Fuller former member of the 90″s R&B group RIFF and Men of Vision and also featured in the movie “Lean on me”, starring Morgan Freeman. The Uplifters are also led by other lead vocalist Rev. Leo Williamson, who is the pastor of Neighborhood Baptist Church in Paterson, New Jersey. Background singer are Richard and Jamal. Their latest project entitled, “He’s Coming Back Again” will be released on Serenity Grace Records. The Uplifters are guaranteed to create a ripple effect in the gospel industry from coast to coast, with songs like “Sit Down Servant”, “He’s Blessing Me”, “Shower Your Blessings”, “He’s Coming Back Again”, and “Hold My Hand.” 

The Uplifters has performed in various cities and places like the The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), The Symphony Hall and various cities across the country, sharing the stage with gospel greats such as The William Brothers, Vicki Winans, Lee Williams, the late Willie Neal Johnson & The Keynotes, The Canton Spirituals, Paul Porter & The Christianaires, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Temptations, Tommy Ellison & The Five Singing Stars, Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson, Darrell McFadden & The Disciples, Slim & The Supreme Angels, The Jackson Southernaires, Doc McKenzie & The Hi-Lites, and many more.

The Uplifter has been played on radio stations across the country such as, KISS FM, WWRL, WNJR, WKDM, WTNB, WXBX, WNHU, WOOF, and many more. It has been a long climb to success for this group of young men, but with their powerful testimony and from their first note while on stage, whether in a church, or a sold out arena, its easy to see how they earned the name, “The Uplifters”.
